Dash Cam

I jumped in to ask about the connector. That's it.

 

I love these Dongar connectors. I've used them for dash cams in a CRV, Impreza, Pilot, Highlander, Rav4 and now my Tundra. It's nice when something just works. Can highly recommend them paired with the $100 4K Rove cameras on Amazon for good 4K video, and the Samsung Pro Endurance microSD cards designed to be used for dashcams.

 

Here in Canada the OEM dashcam is $500+ and only records facing forwards. I can buy Viofo A129+ Duo which has front and rear facing cameras as well as the hardwire kit for under $300.

 

Oh nice. Oem is a little cheaper in the US, looks like integrated dashcam going for about US$260 if you find a dealer who discounts, but I didn’t realize it is front only.

Seems odd these trucks have all these cameras built in but they can’t record without adding more dongles. Mine has the panoramic view package even

I used these with the hardwire kit for an Amazon dash cam and it works great, everything fits.

 

Anyone know how to remove this plastic part around the base? I felt like it was going to break.

 

Which connector did you buy, the 22-24AWG or the 20-22AWG connectors?

 

20-22awg. Thicker wires never hurt.

Just wanted to ask how you like this dash cam and the ability to upload to the cloud to view footage. Also, did your wiring make this cam always on? Thx

 

I don't use the cloud storage function of the dash cam, so i can't speak to that, but overall i like the dash cam, quality is good, only con is the price, i feel like it's kinda expensive

the wiring doesn't make the cam always on, the model i have can automatically turn off/goes into parking mode when the car is off

 

I was hoping the dash cam from toyota, would integrate with all the cameras already installed on the truck... unfortunately, it has it's own camera, looking forward, that gets everything from it, out to both corners of the front hood, and beyond... anything in the other 300 degrees around the truck, it's blind to.

 

Just got mine and installed it in 10 mins on my base SR5. Didn’t even have to use any tools but the overhead sunglass holder does take some pressure to pull off.

 

If anyone is interested in some kits, I also bought everything needed to make a couple kits (15 kits)

Downside, I'm in Canada, so shipping may be a bit more, but again, let me know if interested and I'll figure something out!

Note, I received the shrink tubing and everything to make it look nice, the pics are my prototype!

 

You have any updated pics with the shrink tubing? So the red wire is for on/off ignition and usb will run the always on feature on a dashcam?

Red wire is for always on, regardless of the truck being on or not, whereas the blue wire is for switched, when truck is turned on. You just need a Dash Cam that draws power from a USB outlet.

 

I just wish they'd have the security cam as an additional camera to record along with all the others. into 1 series of videos.
