Not sure if this is possible. Can I upgrade the standard regular rearview mirror on my SR5 TRD Off-Road with a Digital Rearview Mirror? Has anyone on here done it to theirs? Thanks for any info or leads.

Here's a link to a video on YouTube for reference.

Don't know if wiring is there to make it possible. Probably take some digging to find out.

I'll have to crack open the dome light overhead panel and look if there's a 10-pin or a 5-pin harness. There should be a 10-pin up there because of the wiring needed for the Toyota OEM dash cam. I'm assuming the digital rearview mirror will likely use a 5-pin harness.

Does the digital rear view mirror use the camera mounted in the tailgate or another?

It’s the one on the tailgate.

It’s got to be a relatively simple link to get that image from the center display on up to that mirror location. I don’t have a digital rearview mirror either, just not sure what I’d be looking for up in near my existing mirror.

It’s actually one of the two cameras on the roof at the rear, integrated with the 3rd brake light. Not sure if Tundras without the digital rearview mirror even have the camera. The other of the two cameras looks down into the bed. The camera in the tailgate is the backup/PVM cam.

If the Tundra didn’t come with the digital rearview, I don’t think it can be added.

Mine is a Limited TRD OR, has the cameras above the bed but no digital rearview mirror.

That would suck if it cannot be added.

I saw a video somewhere where the truck bed was full of boxes and you cannot see through he rear view window. The driver turned on the digital rearview mirror and it looked the view came from the tailgate without the boxes obstructing the view. So, I'm inclined to believe the video feed maybe coming from a camera mounted on the tailgate. I could be wring though. Can you do some testing if you have the digital RVM on your Tundra? Thanks.

It’s one of camera on the third brake light. I have digital rear view on my SR5 TRD sport premium.
I’ve driven with my motorcycle on back with tailgate down and you can still see the top of the motorcycle.

You might be able to add it assuming you have 2 cameras up there and all the required wiring harnesses. Unsure if there’s and ECU or anything else required.

This might be too expensive to do if it's even possible. Mine truck only has the tailgate camera and none mounted on the rear-facing bed lights. I'm almost sure the 10-pin wiring harness is ready, but that's kinda pointless for me at this point. LOL :)

I had the same thought about the towing mirrors since my Limited will not come with them (only come on Platinum in Canada and not an available as an option on other trims). Even if the wiring was in place the price of the mirrors was astronomical. IIRC they were around $1,200 each! Then you need the switch too which I am sure would be another buck or two. So for you with no cameras and no mirror I am sure you will be in the thousands the get it going.

I'm curious would be cool if it works.

I have it on my 1794. In 2019 I bought a brand new cadillac ct6 platinum , it was the first car to come with a digital rear view mirror. I though it would be gimmicky but it's one of the best features saftey wode added to cars in a long time in my opinion I absolutely loved it. Had to have it on this truck. Just wish they had the button to wash it like my cadi.

Correct, it is the 3rd brake light camera... Mine is blocked by my topper and desperately trying to get a work around and relocate the camera.

Have you taken off the tailight/camera? I cant imagine it would be too difficult to fine the connectors theyre using and make an extension cable.

I have not, unfortunately it looks like a headliner drop situation and between work, travel for work, and balancing out home/ kid/ wife life I have zero time on my hands for such a project.

If by "bed light" you mean the 3rd brake light at the top rear of the cab, one camera is for the digital rear view mirror, the other camera looks down into the bed. If you mean the one in the tail gate handle, that's the back-up camera.

The entire system consists of the mirror, camera (CHMSL/3rd brake light mounted) and wires.

Has anyone successfully removed their bed camera \ digital rear view camera yet? I'm looking to get a topper but don't want to block them. So I am wondering if its possible to put an extension cable on their harnesses to relocate them.
