Hello. I’m in the research stages of upgrading the stock speakers in my 2001 sequoia limited with the JBL system. (Or that’s what it says on the speaker grills.)

I know I’ll need adapter rings but I’m not sure what speakers would be best. I’d prefer to stay with a name brand and not generic type stuff. JBL, kenwood, Polk, kicker, etc. I just listen to classic rock, metal and old country so no heavy bass, just a satisfying punch. More concerned with clear, crisp vocals. I have no steering controls to worry about and I don’t THINK I care to keep the amp connected. I don’t need high end speakers, I’m sure any name brand speaker will be a massive improvement over the 23 year old speakers currently rotting away in the door. lol

I hope by now, 2024, there are brackets and wiring harnesses to make it pretty plug and play with the stock locations. I do want to keep the door sail tweeters if possible.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    * FYI, this is the head unit I’m planning to get but I’m working on all the doors so I’m starting with the speakers. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_110CAR723W/Jensen-CAR723W.html

    No link for the HU?

Not cheap but I'm running these Focals in my 2014.
    VERY happy with them.

    front doors
Focal PS 165 FXE Performance Series 6-1/2" bi-amplified component speaker system at Crutchfield

    rear doors
Focal Performance 165AC Access Series 6-1/2" coaxial speakers at Crutchfield

Honestly, if I had to do it over again, I'd probably omit the rear door speakers..
They add some fill, but not that much.
But I'm the only one in the truck 99% of the time.

I can't post a link but Taco Tunes makes some very nice speaker adapters.
It is the ONLY thing I would buy from them.
Speaker holes are cut to fit your specific speaker size.

Thanks for the detailed reply. There is a link for the HU, are you not able to see it?

I went to taco. Tunes. website and they don’t show they offer any products for the first gen sequoia or tundra.
I’m sure those vocals are nice but way more than I care to spend. In fact, that first link is more than I was planning for the entire stereo upgrade. lol.

How are those focal speakers? Do you feel they lack anywhere. I'm looking at those or the K2 for my tundra just looking for input from others. People say they produce nice bass is that true?
