Just picked up an old box of 2022 Topps Chrome - my son pulled this -

 

Big fail from Topps this Christmas - my son’s “complete” set has 111 doubles and 111 cards missing.

Guy who I’ve been coaching little league with the last 5 years let me know Corbin Carrol was stopping by his work to ride in a F16 - he was nice enough to take some stuff to get signed. My son had bought the jersey over the summer hoping to get it signed at a game - I guess this works! Mark Melancon was with him - apparently Kevin Ginkle was supposed to be there but chickened out.

I recently got back into collecting cards this past summer with my son who has special needs but loves sports. I am collecting all my old stuff from the 80's and 90's and he is collecting stuff from now. I finally grabbed me a 89 Griffey Upper Deck. The thing I like the most is doing it for the fun of it like I used too and not everything has to be about value and grading like adults are doing now. I can walk into a shop with him and 9/10 customers now are adults trying to buy up boxes and packs for hits and grading vs when I was younger most customers were kids with allowances or making money cutting grass to buy packs and boxes if lucky. We were all trying to get that 89 upper deck Griffey or whatever. Back then it was for fun and now it is for profits So glad this thread is active.

 

Same here, been slowly working on my run of Padre Team sets. Need '72, '74, '76 to complete the run of '70 -'91

I don’t buy graded, but if I get a good hit, I’ll send them out. I’m primarily baseball for personal collection, but will grab football every so often and flip on eBay to fund more baseball cards

 

Yes 100%. We wont buy graded but if we get something really nice I will send off to be graded. The only problem I have now is not having Beckett's like we used to I don't even know what is a hit and what is not for his collection. Everything I buy is 80's and 90's stuff. Most cards I get are $.50 cents to $10.00 each. With the exceptions of some of my Jose Canseco's, McGuire, Bond, Clemmons, Griffey and things like that. I found recently the Bo Jackson card in black and white I always loved and had but lost as a kid and a guy local gave me one. He had a couple. Had a guy give me a Griffey 89 upper deck non graded as well.

 

The 80-90’s stuff was over produced, so really hard to get a hit from that era.
I follow Sportscard investor, and a few other dealers on YouTube that discuss trends

 

yeh I don't want any hits from my era I just want to re-collect what I had. As far as my son he just likes to get anything and everything from this generation of cards but hopefully he and I both will learn what is worth what from his stuff

 

Still have the Topps complete sets my grandma gave me from 86-95. 92 and up are still wrapped in cellophane from the factory.

 

love the 87 topps and the topps traded sets.

 

87 wooden frame was pinnacle for me. Loved collecting the throwbacks in the 23 topps set
