I would’ve went for a 2023 Tundra SR 4X4 DC if I could’ve got one with a towing capacity of 10,000lbs, 32USGal tank and heated seats. I’d also prefer an OEM integrated brake controller and hitch, but I know I’d be able to have both professionally installed afterwards.

Yes, they probably just artificially capped the torque at 406 ft-lbs at 2000 rpm instead of letting it continue climbing to 479.

GM did this with their original 2.7L. The torque curve literally just hits a ceiling and flat lines.

But as of this year that same motor now climbs to 390 at 2000 rpm and 430 ft-lbs at 3000 rpm. HP is still 310, they just lifted the artificial torque cap in the tuning.

I wrote Burger Motorsports before about the performance of the JB4 on the SR vs other models. They said it works "fine" on the SR... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think they are saying it works the same?

I did as well. Was interested in SR stock boost pressure. I never did get an answer. Was waiting on an SR to mod but totaled my Cruiser so I bought an SR5 that is in route to be delivered soon. I did test drive an SR and it felt prety good for being detuned. The SR5 will be that much better.

Wait, those guys don’t always tell the truth? Son of a motherless goat!!

Sounds like you need to set up a dyno session with a local shop :D

I suppose you could also do some timed 0-60 runs, then work the maths backwards to find out an estimation of gained HP from the time change…

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
If I will what? Describe the performance of a freight train?

Generally these days with the obsession with “fuel conservation” pulling like a freight train is not a good thing. It means you’re slow. Real slow, with a chance of stalling out on the next hill you see.

Have a 2024 SR coming soon. Will the JB4 void warranty? Website says it can be removed "without a trace", so curious? Thanks guys.

The smaller tank is definitely one of the biggest let downs on the SR model.

    Replying to my own question.

After doing more research (that I should have done prior), I changed my mind and ended up going with an SR5. There was some questions as to the traceability of the JB4 if there was an engine warranty issue and Toyota looked at diagnostics and etc (basically people are saying they could see the high boost levels and other evidence of it and possibly deny warranty). On top of that, with gas prices they way they are I was not looking forward to having to run 91+ Octane.

For anyone reading, this is the thread I was referring to.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/jb4.122299/

    Thanks again guys.

They cant see the high boost levels. The JB4 works by spoofing the PCM into running more boost.

Yeah in the off chance that they are right, and it somehow appears in the logs, it's a pass for me. Sounds fun though.

Doesn't work that way, but the other tells would be obvious...assuming they're included in the stored data. Fuel injector duty cycle would be an easy one to tell. They know what % injectors operate at during Xpsi and load %. If they see the "same" psi at that load % but the injectors are working at 80% vs 65 because of the added boost or ethanol content then they can assume some trickery was up. The truck will go into limp mode if it ever "overboosts" and will throw a code but its possible to do even stock.

its a watered down JB4. Uses same inputs but does not have A LOT of the features JB4 offers

I honestly think we don’t need it. There isn’t that much of a difference in real world between the SR and SR5. I have driven both, i do tow 5k trailer and it does it with ease. I did throw in the red filters from TRD model, seemed like it helped the turbos spool up a bit quicker when applying gas. Also cut off the pipe right after it leaves the muffler, got rid of the resonator. That doesn’t make any difference, just cosmetic

My 2.5 gen SR has the same power as my 2nd gen SR5. I was not aware the 3rd gen had changed the SR format that drastically. Toyota saved money on these older ones omitting all kinds of conveniences inside the cab basically.
No intermittent wipers, dual climate controls, vanity mirrors etc.

IIRC the 3rd Gen SR has the smaller fuel tank, no drive modes, no integrated trailer brake controller and a bunch of other stuff.

And where’d they get that SR rear window port-hole? Reminds me of one from a big 3 brand truck

All double cabs have a “port-hole” window. In Canada you could get a double cab in SR, SR5 and Limited trims. I believe they discontinued the Limited double cab for MY25.

Interesting. Was one on here just last week with a little rectangular sliding inset window. Unknown if powered. Wonder if that was a on US model by chance. I had never seen that before and had to ask.
