Hi guys, has anyone done any seat deletes to sleep in their truck for thr purpose of sleeping in their truck? I'm considering doing this to get away from hotel costs and bed bug threats when I'm away for work.

Could you get a camper shell? Or do you need an open bed?

I camp a lot and sleep comfortably laying diagonal on a platform in the bed of my crewmax and I'm 6ft tall.

For sure! But if I had built it to sleep in it would not be like this at all really too.
I would make a flat platform with no pokey parts that was raised off of the floor enough to provide handy unseen storage and secret compartments.

As it sat this was just to stack bins in full of tools for organization and security when working on the road.
I also would not do that again like this as it turns out!

There is a ton of space back there for sure though!

For sure there is. Have you tried laying just on the seats themselves?

I'm sorry for the late reply guys, been in an area with spotty reception the last few days. I appreciate all the feedback!
    I'm 5'9"
How tall is your friend mark? I measured and the rear seat area is only about 5ft with the doors shut, I'd have to get clever and come up with extra space.
Yeah I've done that but it isnt the most comfortable for me on a regular basis. After working 12hr days I'd like to lay down flat :)

I’ve always been curious as to how much of a PIA the camper shell is to take on/off?

Haha, no worries. I Was wondering if he was a shorter guy.

That's actually not a bad idea to brainstorm for me! I have a hard roll cover on my truck now, I wonder if I could put a camper shell on top of it and install it/uninstall it fairly easily. I'd have plenty of room to lay down there!

I'd suggest a bedrug mat if you're going to sleep in the bed..

If you get a fiberglass shell and can setup a stand behind the truck to slide it on and off of then it is simple for one person to do so to me.

And he is about 6’ or so he claims!

Wow! if he is 6' there is hope for me to sleep back there yet! I'm gonna take the seat out tomorrow and give it a whirl. What do you mean by setting up a stand behind the truck to slide on and off? By figerglass shell do you mean the typical camper shell's on the market?

Yes but any shell that is light enough should be the same too.
The Shells seem to slide easily on the plastic bed rails and I have been able to easily slide one on and off alone this way on my Long Bed even as long as I have a place behind the truck to slide the shell off and on to as long as it is the same height as the rails.
It would also be easy to put some moving glides under the shell if needed to promote even easier sliding if you had to.

Me, my son, and wife can take my ARE cap off in about 15 min. The longest part is unbolting it. I get in the bed and lift with it on my back and walk towards the rear while they control it from both sides then lower it down. One person can lift it, it just takes more because of the size. I put foam on the bed rails so it won’t squeak so I can’t just slide it off.

Softtopper? I can take mine off in 5 minutes all by myself. Lets me have a topper and retain the usefulness of my truck bed.

Ok, guys so I'm pleasantly surprised how well my setup is working out. I took the rear seat out and slept back there sideways with my head in the corner behind the front passenger seat...I could lay on my back with my feet right at the driver's seat railing (with the seat pulled forward). I was in my sleeping bag with no cushion last week and there was a pokey part I had to throw a pillow over on my left side. This week i added a rectangular block of cushion...the type you can get for couch cushions and my wife wrapped a poncho around it to keep it from tearing...threw my sleeping bag on top of that and have been getting good shut eye. The pic I'll post isnt the best since it was dark out.20220215_221857.jpg

There are inflatable beds that fit in the truck bed.

For a sleeping pad, I bought a chaise lounge pad from a patio set. It was cheaper than a piece of thick foam and was sewn in sections if you need to shorten it. Bought mine in winter when they were on sale for cheap at Lowe's or Home Depot, can't remember which.

I deleted the back seat in my 2014 chevy silverado and had just enough room to be comfortable. At 5'9"you should be very comfortable. In my tundra I'm currently making tables to fit the gap between the front seats slid all the way forward and the back seats. It's only 4 less inches than in my chevy and i think it will be very comfortable for me still. I have a 10" thick foam mattress i cut to size that feels great.
