I took my SO to test drive a Tundra a few months ago. When the truck shut down after she opened the door, she asked what was wrong with the vehicle.

As an electronics supplier to Toyota for many years (and most other OEM’s), this topic burns me to the core. Unsure whether I would have purchased the Tundra knowing this beforehand. I’ve read posts that say aftermarket solutions are near, but have little confidence given the absence of meaningful posts recently. I’ve looked at the Accessorides product for the hybrid, but not a big fan of splicing into any connector wires anywhere in the vehicle.

My Genesis G70 did not have remote start, but a reliable aftermarket solution came which only required inserting a pass-thru connector harness with an inline controller. Easy install and flawless performance.

Amazed there is not a aftermarket solution for the Tundra after three model years……. And also amazed of the Toyota excuse in the first place, and the absence of a software solution on their end. This is about 1.5 hours of code change to resolve.

51 years old. Never had remote start before this Tundra. Never used it before. Could care less that it has it.
Of course I also feel the same about power windows, door locks and seats.
    Sorry

Same here. Remote start, and the fact that it shuts the engine off when you open the door, doesn't even make my list of things I think or care about.

But my poor finger gets so sore when I have to push that start button one more time...... I'm thinking about hiring one of the neighbor kids to take care of that for me.

There's a lot of things that need to go right to start a vehicle. There are less things that need to go right to keep a car running. This explains why distaste for cars with auto start/stop and no ability to disable it with any persistence.

If I remember how my past pos f150 was: you still had to press the brake and push to start so Toyota turns off the engine yet we still have to press the brake and push the button.
    Really nothing changed IMO.
Toyota,s starter will last alot longer than a pos will as Toyota actually has the ecu count every start cycle. Very smart!!

My Chevy is great on the remote star up.
    1 hit lock button.
2 then hold auto start and like most it'll stay fired up for 10 minutes.
3 then walk up to it, hit unlock ( truck still stays on).
4 jump in drop the keys in the ignition & key up, then all the bells and whistles turn on.

It's a cool concept Toyota oughta try it.
